What's particularly distinctive about Anglicanism?
Anglican beliefs and practices, their authority, derive from an integration of
Scripture (the Holy Bible),
Reason (the intellect and the experience of God) and
Tradition (the practices and beliefs of the historical church).
This ‘three-legged stool’ is said to demonstrate a ‘balance’ in the Anglican approach to faith. The term via media when used in reference to the Anglican tradition generally refers to the idea that Anglicanism represents a middle way to approach the Divine.
In other words, you don’t have to check your brain at the door. We encourage doubt and love to engage in conversation, we look to the past to see what has happened, but we live in the present and look forward to seeing what God is doing and going to do in the world.
We spend sacred time in prayer, we pray for each other, and the world and we pray for open hearts and minds to the needs around us.
